How to Change Tax Rates in osCommerce

Step 1: Log in to Your osCommerce Admin Panel

Open your web browser and navigate to your osCommerce admin login page. Enter your username and password to log in.

Step 2: Navigate to the Tax Zones Section

Once logged in, go to the left-hand menu and click on Locations / Taxes. From the dropdown, select Tax Zones.

Step 3: Edit or Add a Tax Zone

In the Tax Zones section, you can edit an existing tax zone or add a new one:

  • To edit an existing tax zone, click the Edit button next to the zone you want to modify.
  • To add a new tax zone, click the New Zone button and fill in the required fields, such as the zone name and description. Click Save to create the new zone.

 

Step 4: Navigate to the Tax Classes Section

Go back to the Locations / Taxes menu and select Tax Classes.

Step 5: Edit or Add a Tax Class

In the Tax Classes section, you can edit an existing tax class or add a new one:

  • To edit an existing tax class, click the Edit button next to the class you want to modify.
  • To add a new tax class, click the New Tax Class button and fill in the required fields, such as the class title and description. Click Save to create the new class.
Step 6: Navigate to the Tax Rates Section

Go back to the Locations / Taxes menu and select Tax Rates.

Step 7: Edit or Add a Tax Rate

In the Tax Rates section, you can edit an existing tax rate or add a new one:

  • To edit an existing tax rate, click the Edit button next to the rate you want to modify.
  • To add a new tax rate, click the New Tax Rate button and fill in the required fields:
    • Tax Class Title: Select the appropriate tax class from the dropdown menu.
    • Zone: Select the appropriate tax zone from the dropdown menu.
    • Tax Rate (%): Enter the new tax rate percentage.
    • Description: Provide a description for the tax rate.
    • Priority: Set the priority for this tax rate if there are multiple tax rates. Lower numbers have higher priority.

Click Save to apply the changes or create the new tax rate.

Step 8: Test Your Configuration

Perform a test checkout to ensure that the new tax rates are being applied correctly. Verify that the tax is calculated based on the customer’s location and the configured tax rates.

1) Click Tax Zones

This is the Tax Zones page where you can see a tax zone for Florida has already been setup. You can setup additional tax zones and classes by clicking the Tax Zones or Tax Classes links here

2) We’re going to configure a tax rate. Click Tax Rates

3) With the Taxable Goods tax class for the Florida tax zone selected, click Edit

4) Enter a new Tax Rate here

5) Then click Update
